need to track - unexcused, sick (without pay), suspended or general days off without pay.

We also had this problem. As a solution we added these as jobs (ex. sick, late, time off request, notes) When we need to add one we drag and drop it onto the schedule and add any specific details in the notes. That was it is a good visual and in the future we can always go back and read the notes.
